Why Are Solar Panels with Battery More Valuable?

A standard solar panel system without a battery generates energy during the day, but home consumption peaks in the evening — after work, when people are home. Without a battery, surplus daytime energy is fed to the grid at a lower price than it is later bought back. A solar battery reverses this situation — daytime energy is stored and used in the evening.

The result: self-consumption rises from the typical 25–35% to 70–90%, and the electricity bill falls significantly more than with a standard system. The battery also provides backup power — the home keeps running even during a grid outage.

How Does a Solar Panel System with Battery Work?

Solar panels generate energy

During the day the panels convert sunlight into electricity. Generation starts from the first rays of sunlight and continues until sunset.

Hybrid inverter manages energy flow

The home's immediate consumption is met first. Any surplus is directed straight to charging the battery. Only when the battery is full is energy fed to the grid.

Battery stores surplus energy

A fully charged battery holds energy for use during evening and overnight hours, on cloudy days or during power outages.

At night and during outages — battery powers the home

Completely automatically, with no intervention required. In the event of a power outage, switchover happens in 20 ms — completely unnoticeable.

Types of Solar Panel Batteries

LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate)

The safest and longest-lived type of lithium battery. 3,000–6,000 charge cycles, low self-discharge, non-toxic. The best choice for homes.

Modular batteries

Capacity can be increased in future by adding extra modules. Ideal if the initial budget is limited but you plan to expand the system later.

High-capacity battery units

15–30 kWh systems for businesses and large homes with high consumption or off-grid requirements.

Leading Manufacturer Batteries — What We Install

We work only with proven battery manufacturers suited to Latvia's conditions, with real warranty and service infrastructure:

  • BYD Battery-Box Premium — modular LiFePO4 system, available from 5.1 kWh, integrates excellently with most hybrid inverter brands
  • Pylontech Force H2 — modular architecture with very broad inverter compatibility, the most popular choice in Latvia thanks to reliability and price
  • Huawei LUNA 2000 — intelligent energy management and perfect integration with Huawei SUN2000 inverters, automatic optimiser
  • SolarEdge Home Battery — DC connection with SolarEdge system, high round-trip efficiency, compact size
  • Sungrow SBR — modular LiFePO4 system, scalable from 9.6 kWh to 100 kWh, ideal for larger properties
  • Fronius Solar Battery — close integration with Fronius Symo Hybrid, European-made with an excellent warranty

Hybrid Inverter — The Heart of a Battery System

A hybrid inverter is the most important component in a solar panel system with battery — it manages energy flow between the panels, battery, home and electricity grid. We install leading hybrid inverters: Huawei, Fronius, SMA and SolarEdge.

Important: not all inverters provide a UPS (backup power) function during outages. We will advise on which inverter best suits your specific needs — whether backup power is a priority for you, or the main goal is self-consumption.

Battery Capacity — How Many kWh Do You Need?

Choosing the right capacity is just as important as choosing the battery itself — a battery that is too small won't deliver the expected effect; one that is too large won't pay back.

5–10 kWh

Suitable for a smaller home with consumption up to 200 kWh/month. Covers most evening consumption, provides 4–6 hours of backup.

10–15 kWh

For a medium home with consumption of 200–400 kWh/month. Covers full evening and overnight consumption, provides backup power all night.

15–30 kWh

For larger homes, businesses or those seeking full energy independence. Supplies electricity for 24–48 hours without sun.

We analyse your actual hourly consumption profile and calculate the optimal capacity that delivers the best return on investment — not just the highest self-consumption.

Practical Benefits of Solar Panels with Battery

Significantly lower bills

Self-consumption up to 90% means you buy minimal electricity from the grid. Even in winter, when generation is lower, the battery optimises energy use.

Backup power

During a power outage the home keeps running on battery energy. Switchover — 20 ms, completely unnoticeable.

Protection against price increases

The more you generate and consume yourself, the less you are affected by electricity market price volatility. The battery amplifies this effect.

Greater green impact

Higher self-consumption means that the clean energy you generate is used directly on site — without grid losses and fossil fuel backup.

Adding a Battery to an Existing Solar System

If you already have a solar panel system without a battery, whether a battery can be added depends on the existing inverter type:

  • If a hybrid inverter is installed — a battery can be connected directly, often without any additional installation costs
  • If a string (standard) inverter is installed — the inverter needs replacing with a hybrid model, or an AC-coupled battery (e.g. BYD HVM or Pylontech) can be installed

We will assess your existing system free of charge and explain the simplest and most cost-effective path to adding a battery.

Battery Price for Solar Panels — What to Expect

In Latvia in 2025–2026, solar battery prices start from around €2,000–3,000 for a 5 kWh system and reach €8,000–15,000 for 20–30 kWh high-capacity units. The price includes the battery itself, BMS (battery management system), installation and integration with the existing inverter.

Note that government support is available for solar batteries — see support programmes to find out whether your project qualifies.

10-year installation warranty + manufacturer's battery warranty

All battery installation work is carried out with a 10-year warranty. Battery manufacturers (BYD, Pylontech, Huawei etc.) provide a 10-year product warranty. In the event of any issues we respond quickly and resolve them at no extra cost.

Frequently Asked Questions About Solar Panels with Battery

Quality LiFePO4 batteries last 10–15 years or 3,000–6,000 charge cycles while retaining more than 80% of original capacity. Manufacturers typically provide a 10-year warranty. This means the battery will reliably serve virtually the entire lifetime of the solar panel system.
Yes, a hybrid inverter with battery provides a UPS function — automatically switching to battery power within 20 ms. Household occupants barely notice — computer screens don't flicker, baby monitors don't switch off. Important: this function must be configured during installation — we will do this according to your requirements.
A typical home with 10–15 kWh of evening and overnight consumption is well served by a 10 kWh battery. If you want full energy independence or experience frequent outages, 15–20 kWh is recommended. We calculate the optimal capacity based on your actual hourly consumption profile — not a generic example.
It depends on the existing inverter. If a hybrid inverter is installed, a battery can be connected directly. If a standard string inverter is installed, the inverter needs replacing or an AC-coupled battery can be added. We will assess your existing system free of charge and recommend the best solution.
A hybrid system is connected to the electricity grid but uses a battery to increase self-consumption and provide backup power. If the battery is empty and there is no sun, the home automatically draws energy from the grid. An off-grid system is completely disconnected from the grid — it is fully autonomous and requires considerably larger batteries to supply electricity during extended cloudy periods.
